WASHINGTON–One of the stars of the cult TV series “The Wire” said Monday he’s recovering after he was stabbed in the torso at a Washington nightclub.

Anwan Glover, who played ruthless gang enforcer Slim Charles in the HBO crime drama, was rushed to hospital after the knifing early Sunday.

“While supporting another band, at their show, I was involved in an altercation with some unknown people,” said the 41-year-old, who also performs in a local go-go band.

“While defending myself, I was stabbed,” he told fans and friends via social media, adding: “I am recovering and will be back soon… I am not a stranger to adversity and when shown hate, I’m going to spread love.”

Glover, who also appeared in the Oscar-winning film “12 Years a Slave,” has long spoken out against street violence–having been shot, by his own count, 13 times.

In 2007, his 29-year-old brother was shot and killed in Washington–and three years later his teenage son survived a shooting at a suburban pool party.

Local television station WJLA said Glover’s stabbing was one of three acts of violence reported at local venues within 90 minutes early Sunday.
