HOLLYWOOD correspondent Ruben V. Nepales jested when we replied to an e-mail from him via our Blackberry: “Hah! Now you’re a Crackberry, too!”
By that he meant a BB addict. We had often teased him about seemingly foregoing sleep altogether, because he would reply instantly, by e-mail or SMS, to all queries from Manila.
Research in Motion, makers of what they call the “smart phone,” recently threw a celebrity party dubbed, “In the Name of Love: The Blackberry Show.” Apparently, there are enough show biz stars using the gadget to build a party around.
Living Stars asked some of them: “Are you a Crackberry?”
Ginger Conejero
TV Host/Reporter
Yes, I am a Crackberry! My BB makes everything so convenient. I have my e-mail contacts and Twitter app so I can stay on top of things. I can chat for free with work contacts and friends; we keep each other [updated] on the most important and stupidest things.
Ara Mina
Actress/Singer
“Yes, I am. I have nicknamed myself Hazelberry. I like using BBM, Twitter and push e-mail all the time. I don’t log on to FB anymore, baka ’di na ako makapag trabaho at mabaliw na talaga ako. I need a ‘block’ berry, a day na pahinga sa BB.”
Geoff Eigenmann
Actor
“Yes, I am. I can’t do without my phone.”
Nikki Valdez
Actress
“I’m a super Crackberry! I love that it is like a computer, and that my e-mails go straight to the phone. I can connect with my friends from different parts of the world with the BBM. I can surf the Net without limit. Everything is here—Facebook, Twitter … addict ako!”
Phoemela Barranda
Model/TV Host
“I’m crazy about BBM! Group chat keeps me and my friends around the world connected. We can share photos and comment about them. I’m using the Torch so I have a choice to use the QWERTY pad, touchscreen or combination. It depends on my mood.”
Fanny Serrano
Actor/Celebrity Stylist
“Naman! I’m super crazy about BB! Nakakatipid pa ako … I don’t need a secretary by my side all the time. It’s my schedule master, keeper of important documents, my teacher and best friend. It’s beside me even when I sleep.”
Tirso Cruz III
Actor
“Yes, I guess I am a Crackberry. I love using it. It’s fast, and I have a choice of publicly declaring what’s on my mind. I also like it because I can do group texting. Besides, it’s there, so why not use it?”
Jessa Zaragoza
Actress/Singer
Yes, I am. I love BBM, especially when in conference with my family. We formed a group— my dad, mom and sister, who are all in California. We get to talk for free. Plus, you can post pictures, surf the Web and check your e-mail wherever you are. ’Di ako mapakali if I’m not holding my phone.”
Carla Abellana
Actress
“I am not a Crackberry. I am not the type whose eyes are glued to the phone. I am function over recreation.”
Carlo Orosa
Actor/Talent Manager
I’m still getting used to my BB Pearl, a gift from Christian (Bautista, singer) last Christmas. So as of now, ‘Cranberry’ pa lang ako.
Ogie Alcasid
OPM Chair/Singer/Composer/Comedian
’Di naman ako addict. Mine is a gift from Kathleen Go (Universal Records general manager). I like it because I can make the font bigger. Perfect sa malabong mata.
John Lapus
Comedian/TV Host
Kris Aquino [gave] me a BB Torch last Christmas. I’m just starting to use it. Hindi pa ako baliw.
