Single Review: ‘Right Where You Belong’ by Julie Anne San Jose
Singer-actress Julie Anne San Jose’s inclination towards music comes naturally because she had been learning to play various musical instruments since she was a young child.
It has become so obvious to many that making music is indeed a passion of hers to the point she has earned the title “Asia’s Pop Sweetheart”.
Now, with the release of her second album entitled “Deeper” from GMA Records, she continues on the path to becoming a serious recording artist—one she will be, undoubtedly, for a long time.
The chart topping lead single “Right Where You Belong” taken from her sophomore release entitled “Deeper” proves her popularity has staying power and that her fan base has grown exponentially since her major label debut album release in 2012 and—which is worth noting—was certified 9X platinum.
The future is indeed looking bright for Julie Anne San Jose’s professional singing career.
Now, let us review the single “Right Where You Belong”.

From the “thud” knocking type sound from a sampled percussion instrument, to the swirling keyboard effects, to the first hit of the crash cymbal taken from the drum programming when Julie Anne San Jose reaches the first line of the chorus section… then, repeat that pattern a few more times and some minor changes done to the lyrics… what you have with San Jose’s lead single “Right Where You Belong” is a simple, yet effective, tried and tested formula in making a single like this truly easy to remember for fans and even for casual listeners as well !

What is the overall meaning of this single?
First off, “Right Where You Belong” was composed by Agat Obar Morallos. This single was also the theme for GMA’s primetime Koreanovela “The Master’s Sun”.
For me, this single is all about maintaining a strong spiritual bond with our Savior so that we may overcome challenges that sometimes make us question our own faith.
While it would be easy to mistake this song as a typical love song—with a “girl finds guy scenario and they end up together happily ever after!”—upon first listening to it, one may just get the impression of that.
But upon deeper analysis of the lyrics and some introspective reflection, the whole concept suggests strongly that this is in fact a Faith-based song.
Thumbs Up.
