Carla Abellana’s grandmother, former LVN star Delia Razon, was just as alarmed as the young actress’ boyfriend, Geoff Eigenmann, about her sexy scenes in “My Neighbor’s Wife.”
“At first, my lola was incredulous, watching the love sequences… but she liked the movie,” Carla said during the launch of her new GMA 7 soap opera, “Kung Aagawin Mo ang Langit.” She added, “My mom (Rea Reyes), who doesn’t usually watch local movies, loved it as well.”
At press time, Geoff has yet to watch the adult drama. “He was in Los Angeles when it opened. We plan to watch it together when he returns. I hope my dad (Rey Abellana) gets to see it as well, and like it,” said Carla.
Apart from the Regal Films offering, Carla is tackling “mature” roles in two coming indie films, “Asiong Salonga” and “El Presidente”—both directed by Tikoy Aguiluz.
Before shooting for “Neighbor’s Wife” started, Carla showed Geoff the script. “Maybe he was nervous at first. I asked him to read it so I could get his opinion,” she related.
But there’s no reason for Geoff to get jealous though, Carla added. “He wants me to grow and prove my versatility as an actress.”
Thus, she continued, Geoff doesn’t mind that she’s now being paired with a new leading man, Mike Tan, in her latest TV series.
“We’ve accepted that we’ll get to work with others,” said Carla, “like the time when Geoff acted with Glaiza de Castro in ‘Grazilda.’”
All told, it’s been a stressful month for Carla, who was declared best new actress at the Philippine Movie Press Club Star Awards this year. She got embroiled in unexpected intrigues and figured in a tiff with the press.
“I know that there will always be good and bad news about me. I’ve learned to take things in stride,” she said. “These new challenges will push me to improve. Doing daring roles is a step forward in my career.”
In her new teleserye, she explained, the topic of in vitro fertilization is being tackled for the first time. “I’ve grown a lot since joining show biz,” Carla said. “It pulled me out of my shell and my comfort zone.”
