“THE FASHION Fund”
As new productions on TV are trotted out, we do our best to profile them as soon as possible to enable viewers to see if they want to add them to the programs they regularly like to watch. One production that comes on strong is “The Fashion Fund,” a showcase for designers that is regarded to be more important than most because it’s supported by the iconic likes of Anna Wintour.
Stress, duress
Indeed, last week’s edition of the show was rather intimidating, as the best young comers in Europe and the United States were given only 15 minutes to impress Wintour and the other jurors with the high level of their achievement and promise.
Those few minutes practically flew on wings of stress and duress, as the jurors kept distracting the finalists with all sorts of questions that made their quickie showcase all the more unnerving!
What Wintour was after wasn’t just uniquely creative talent, but the ability to think big in terms of a fashion career—for the long term. When you’re relatively young, you may not be able to think and plan that far ahead—so, you would be left behind by the other, more focused and ambitious finalists in the literally cutting-edge group!
In your face
Now on its second season, “Millionaire Matchmaker” makes for compellingly in-your-face viewing, because its resident marriage broker, Patti Stanger, is a no-nonsense woman of the world who’s seen it all and isn’t impressed by her clients’ wealth. She sets down rules like “no sex on the first few dates,” because she knows from sad experience that rich guys don’t like having an easy time “getting laid.” After all, they’re rich enough to pay for a hot night with practically any woman they crave—and that’s not why they have hired this modern-day reincarnation of Jane Austen’s Emma.

To illustrate: Last week, two millionaires went on dates with extremely attractive prospects lined up by the show’s resident matchmaker. The first guy tried too hard to be different and original, and took his date to a bar where the temperature was subzero? Yes, the chill was conducive to a lot of hugging and smooching, but the evening ended badly for both guy and gal.
On the other hand, the second millionaire followed the matchmaker’s rules and treated his date like a princess—and she was properly appreciative!
Still, he didn’t take advantage of her and her gratitude, and they went on to have a “serious” relationship. We trust that single female viewers will learn from the two couples’ conflicting examples.
