8 PH films in Rome

Eight Filipino films were screened at the Across Asia Film Festival, held in Rome, Italy, May 31-June 1.

Among the films shown were Vincent Sandoval’s “Aparisyon,” Chito Roño’s “Badil,” Alvin Yapan’s “Debosyon” and Keith Deligero’s “Iskalawags.”

Also set was a Khavn de la Cruz retrospective: “Mondomanila,” “Misericordia,” “Kalakala” and “Edsa XXX.” De la Cruz provided live piano score on two films (“Kalakala and “Misericordia”), with renowned musician Mike Cooper on lap steel guitar (on “Kalakala”).

Apart from a retrospective of his films, De la Cruz also  gave a master class on guerrilla filmmaking at the Maxxi Italian: National Museum of the 21st Century Arts in Rome, on May 31 and June 1.

After the Rome events, De la Cruz’s retrospective and master class proceeded to Cagliari, Italy, where it was held from June 3 to 7.Bayani San Diego Jr.
