SEOUL—Taeyang, a member of the popular Korean boy band Big Bang, is coming out with a new studio album, “Rise,” on June 2.
His agency, YG Entertainment, released a full track list as well as a detailed explanation of the songs and the making of the album on its official blog on Thursday.
Taeyang was involved in composing and writing most of the tracks on his new album, and a number of famous producers and artists including G-Dragon, Tablo, Choice37, Boys Noize, The Fliptones, Happy Perez and Britt Burton contributed.
The new album’s lead single is the R&B track “Eyes, Nose, Lips,” which was jointly produced by YG’s main producers TEDDY and DEE.P.
“Whereas Taeyang’s past title tracks have included dance performances, ‘Eyes, Nose, Lips’ is a slower R&B song that steers away from dance moves and focuses on his sentimental voice,” wrote YG head Yang Hyun-suk on the blog.
“Although every new song added to the album was excellent enough to be considered for the title track, I was instantly moved when I heard the powerful first lines of ‘Eyes, Nose, Lips’ sung by Taeyang during the first recording session,” said Yang.
In fact, Yang liked the track so much that he actively gave suggestions for how its music video should be made. “It was the first time since Big Mama’s ‘Break Away’ MV 11 years ago that I proposed my own ideas for a YG artist’s music video,” Yang said.
Taeyang will release three music videos over the coming weeks. The MV of “Eyes, Nose, Lips” will be unveiled at midnight on June 2 and the MV of “1 AM” at 1 a.m. on June 10. The MV of the fast-tempo track “Body” is currently in the making and will be made available in mid-June, according to the blog.
