MANILA, Philippines—Filipino-American Malaya Watson, an eliminated contestant on the popular singing show American Idol, had her share of the spotlight when she sang with Grammy award-winning crooner John Legend.

On Thursday’s (Manila time) American Idol finale, Legend took the stage first as he gave a sample of his latest single, “You & I.” He then introduced Watson for their take on his megahit “All of Me.”

The duet was well-received among the audience, with judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban, and Harry Connick Jr. giving the two a standing ovation. Host Ryan Seacrest described the performance as a “cool moment.”

“Malaya and John Legend” even trended on the social media site Twitter during and after their performance.

Watson finished eighth in the competition. She and the rest of the female finalists also got to sing with American pop star Demi Lovato during the finale.

Meanwhile, 23-year-old rocker Caleb Johnson was announced this year’s American Idol. He beat teenage pop singer Jena Irene for the title.
