PDI Indie Bravo! film fest on tour

“SANGANDAAN”

After a well-received premiere last December at Greenbelt’s MyCinema, the First Inquirer Indie Bravo! Film Festival is going on tour, with screenings scheduled at the Film Development Council of the Philippines Cinematheques in Zamboanga, Davao, Baguio and Iloilo.

“LIGAW”

To be shown are 19 short films and documentaries—most of them award winners in international competitions—from various local indie festivals, including CineFilipino, Cinema One, Cinemalaya, Cinema Rehiyon and Sineng Pambansa.

The Sineng Pambansa docus are Sherbien Dacalanio and Sheryl Manalastas’ “Ang Pagbabalik ng Bituin” and Lauren Sevilla-Faustino’s “Ang Babae sa Likod ng Mambabatok.”

Also on the list are the short film “Mientras Su Durmida” and docu “Chasing Fireflies” by two-time Inquirer Indie Bravo! honoree Sheron Dayoc.

“PROLOGO sa Ang Dakilang Desaparecido”

Globally acclaimed filmmakers and Inquirer Indie Bravo! honorees Brillante Ma. Mendoza, Raymond Red and Lav Diaz will present short films as well. Red will screen “Anino”; Mendoza, “Ang Kamera” and “Eternal”; and Diaz, “Prologo sa Ang Dakilang Desaparecido” and “Firefly.”

Shorts

The CineFilipino shorts are: Pamela L. Reyes’ “Ligaw”; Kim Ocariza’s “Logaritmo”; Jose Ibarra Guballa and Bienvenido Ferrer II’s “Sangandaan”; JE Tiglao’s “Onang”; and Joan Cajes’ “Alkansiya.”

“ONANG”

Five Sineng Pambansa products are in the fest: animated shorts (Blecyrezza E. Piluden’s “Kalon” and Ayeen Pineda and Ramon del Prado’s “Si Pagong at si Matsing”) and docus (Lester G. Babiera’s “Bulig,” Cierlito E. Tabay’s “Walay Tumoy na Punterya” and Dempster Samarista’s “Taguri” or “Kites of Sulu”).

Unique tour

The participating films take viewers on a tour of the archipelago, in the same way that the festival now takes Inquirer Indie Bravo! around Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao.

The Zamboanga screenings will be held from May 20 to 25; Davao, May 30 to June l; Baguio, June 6 to 8; and Iloilo, from June 13 to 15.
