Residents of Sampaloc, Quezon Province, where the 1971 biopic “Asedillo” was filmed, are encouraging more producers to make films in their town.

Among Sampaloc’s natural attractions is the Asedillo Falls, named after the late teacher/revolutionary leader Teodoro Asedillo, portrayed in the film by National Artist for Film Fernando Poe Jr.

“In coordination with the local government, more historical films can be set here,” Sampaloc Mayor Emmanuel Torres said at the recent launch for the 4th Bulihan Festival, ongoing until Saturday.

Torres cited the historic Tower House in Bgy. San Isidro and an old house built in 1924 and used as a camp by the Japanese in World War II.

There’s the Hangga Falls and Buho Falls in Barangay Bataan and, for old structures, the Spanish arch bridge built in 1888, the mayor added.

“The Guinto bridge is ideal for action films,” Torres said. “The Maapon River in Barangay Kakati is perfect for boat races.”

For the Bulihan Festival tonight at 7, Rivermaya’s Jason Fernandez performs with singer Kris Angelica in “SMB Night.” Tomorrow, radio jock Chiki Boom Boom will host the “Search for Natatanging Anak ng Sampaloc.”
