Whenever I’m bored, or whenever there’s a long waiting time, I read. I like browsing in bookstores. If a title catches my eye, I read the summary on the back cover. That was how I found “Thirteen Reasons Why” by Jay Asher. I later learned that it was a New York Times bestseller. It’s about a girl who committed suicide. But before killing herself, she left cassette tapes—recordings about 13 people, 13 reasons behind her decision. It’s actually light, easy reading. I like the way the author presented the lead character as someone who’s not really a martyr; she just thinks differently. This novel shows that there are different perspectives in life. Most of the time, we base our decisions on emotions. We should broaden our points of view. Bayani San Diego Jr.

I PERSONALLY picked this copy of Paulo Coelho’s “The Witch of Portobello.” It’s about love, sacrifice and pursuing your dreams. The novel’s main character wants to prove something

and she will do everything to achieve her goals, even if it means making lots of sacrifices. I can understand her situation. It’s a lot like being in show biz. I often have to give up sleep, bonding with my family ….  But since this is what I want, I willingly make the extra effort. I don’t want to waste my time in this business. I want to be a good actor. I GOT intrigued by the books of Sophie Kinsella. At first, I wanted to read the “Shopaholic” series, but I didn’t know where to start—there were already so many “Shopaholic” books. So I got a copy of  “I’ve Got Your Number” instead. I found the lead character Poppy Wright funny and interesting. She lost her engagement ring, an heirloom of her fiancé’s family. I enjoyed reading this. I also liked the dialogue and the chemistry among the characters. It’s light reading and a lot of fun. I keep rereading my favorite parts. Bayani San Diego Jr.
