We always see Rafael Rosell in leading-man roles or provocative pictorials. But, the actor was a pleasant surprise when we finally met him and realized that there was more to him than his smoldering good looks and ripped physique.
In fact, you can’t stop Rafael from sharing his strong opinions if they’re for an advocacy or issue he passionately believes in—not even when his PA (personal assistant) discreetly cautions him to rein them in!
No, his statements aren’t full of fire and brimstone—but, they carry enough conviction to show that he’s no fence-sitter. When we asked him what kind of project he won’t ever do, he was quick to point out that he will “never lie” to the public.
Rafael explains, “I’m not going to shoot down specific endorsements—but, you won’t see me promoting products I don’t believe in—or those that are bad for people. I don’t drink alcohol, because, well, has it made anyone smarter? Hasn’t it contributed to violence and rage?
Political views
“Some people work so hard to get a good body, then they get smashed in bars—it doesn’t make sense! Lately, I’ve been hit for my political views—but, shouldn’t people be discussing the message rather than bashing the messenger?
“I’m a huge nature warrior and environmental advocate. I’ve been planting a lot of trees lately—it’s something that we can do that doesn’t require help from others. Believing in the environment means believing in a better future for all of us.”
How does Rafael prepare for the roles he portrays? He replies, “As Rico Santos in the TV soap, ‘The Borrowed Wife,’ I needed to find the father figure I might have in me—because I’m single and don’t have kids. I often use my mom as my ‘driving force,’ especially when I need to cry or be happy. This time, my dad is my inspiration—because I’m required to convey the dynamics of a father’s relationship with his family.”
What does he find attractive in a woman? Rafael answers, “If a woman knows how to engage my mind, my heart is hers for the taking. I prefer Filipino women—I’m drawn to their spark, and how inherently loving they are!”
