MANILA, Philippines – They joined the contest to win. And they tried to grab the crown the cheater’s way.
Four contestants in the “Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition Doubles” confessed that they cheated in the competition that seeks to promote healthier ways to lose weight, the Inquirer Entertainment in Radio 990AM reported on Monday.
The report said the brothers Ralph and Christian Du, Cathy Bautista and Patrizha Martinez admitted that they sneaked in cigarettes, junk foods and slimming teas in the camp to help them lose extra pounds. The items were prohibited in the contest.
Cathy is the daughter of Gigi Dela Riva and Marlon Bautista, who is the eldest brother of Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. Meanwhile, Patrizha is the daughter of celebrities William and Yayo Martinez.
The four contestants voluntarily dropped out the competition when directly asked by host Iza Calzado for their messages in light of the incidents that involved them.
“Hinahantay ko po ‘yung time na magkamali ako para matuto. Siguro ito ‘yung way na maintindihan ko ang sarili ko,” the visibly choked Christian said.
(I was waiting for the time I make a mistake for me to learn. Maybe this is a way for me to understand myself more.)
“Katulad ng kapatid ko, nabulag ako ‘dun sa totoong spirit ng competition… Kahit ako hindi ko inakala up to the point na magiging ganito lalo na po’t itinuro sa amin ng dad na ang integridad, hindi mo kailangang bilhin…” Christian’s brother Ralph added.
(Like my brother, I failed to see the true spirit of the competition… Even I didn’t expect to reach this point especially as our father teaches us that integrity cannot be bought.)
Cathy said she disappointed herself and her parents.
“I think it would be better if I step down and know the real Cathy again… because the new Cathy is not something to proud of by my parents,” she said.
Patrizha said she had high spirits when she entered the competition just to lose even 20 pounds. She said she could not stomach continuing in the competition after she cheated thinking that the others were doing their best.
“I want the people to remember me na siya ‘yung nagkamali pero buong loob niyang hinarap, at taas noo siyang babangon,” she said, crying.
(I want the people to remember me as someone who made a mistake but faced it, and who would rise again with head held high.)
Coach Toni and Jim Saret expressed their regret over the incident, especially to the Du brothers who were the strongest contenders.
“The real world, is out there. This is going to be a part of your biggest transformation,” Coach Toni said.
“Don’t let this moment define you. Let this moment make you stronger. Let it make you become better people,” Coach Jim added.
