Age-appropriate moves for Martin and Gary

CHARICE. Life without Foster?

News about David Foster letting go of Charice after they wrap up their Asian tour this October (so she can work with producers who are more adept with contemporary music) doesn’t worry Cookie Tiglao, an admirer: “Isn’t Foster Charice’s godfather? He probably thinks she’s ready to take her music to the next level and feels he’s already done his part – to introduce Charice to the world! Wise decision.”

Other notes:

Ed Dames, Makati City: “After her impressive finish in the Miss Universe contest, I’m sure Shamcey Supsup will receive offers for TV hosting, commercial endorsements, and even TV and film acting. I hope she resists all of them. To optimize the platform she’s been blessed with, she should become our brand ambassador for the Department of Tourism, because she shows the best in Filipinos!”

Razel Santos, accountant: “Martin Nievera and Gary Valenciano are without a doubt topnotch singer-performers – but, there’s no denying that age is catching up with them. Martin needs to lose weight and he should adjust the key of his songs a bit lower, so he doesn’t have to struggle to hit those  high notes. TV is a cruel medium, and there’s no way he can hide the unpleasant grimace on his face each time he reaches for those challenging notes.

“For his part, Gary should put his Michael Jackson moves to rest and leave them to his dancer-son, who is more age-appropriate to execute them. Now, I’m wondering why there are no apparent heirs to Martin and Gary as far as singing is concerned –no one comes close! Our younger male singers can’t seem to outgrow their competition-style singing – laging pa-impress ang dating, pero wala namang puso!”

Primo Perez, student: “‘Starstruck’ alumna, Jackie Rice, is an engaging presence on GMA 7’s ‘Sisid.’ She has also impressed me as a budding actress. I hope the Kapuso network gives her more important roles.”
