Auditions set on Monday for glittering ‘Manila Vanilla’ revue at Jade Vine

/ 09:53 PM September 16, 2011

In the 1960s, the Jade Vine Restaurant on UN Ave. was famous for being among the first “high society” venues that started the trend for gay fashion shows, beauty pageants and glittering dinner-theater shows featuring excerpts and spoofs of songs and production numbers from popular stage musicals. The shows were the toast of the town and quickly gained the patronage and participation of socialites, designers and entertainers.

There came a time when Jade Vine shows ended their run. The good news, however, is that starting this year, Jade Vine is being relaunched as a trendy venue for the best in glittering and cabaret entertainment – and more!

The new Jade Vine’s entertainment season is being kicked off this November with the spectacular gay cabaret revue, “Manila Vanilla,” directed by Nestor Torre, who made “Close Encounters with the Third Sex,” a huge dinner-theater hit for years in the ’80s.

This time around, the new revue fields a cast of lovely and/or outrageously funny gay singer-actor-dancer-impersonators, an exciting mix of established talents with new discoveries. “Manila Vanilla” is produced by Alita Divino.
