With all the work and pressure that goes with being a politician, Leyte fourth district Rep. Lucy Torres-Gomez said dancing and hosting TV shows had become her stress outlets.

“It keeps me sane. It can’t be all about work or sadness. I have to recharge and refresh myself, so I could do more and give more of myself,” Lucy recently told a group of reporters during a press conference for TV5’s “Celebrity Dance Battle” (Saturdays, 7:45 p.m.).

Asked if her new hosting stint would affect her public service, Lucy vowed she would never neglect her responsibilities.  “You make time for the things you choose to do and have in life,” said Lucy, who used to cohost the entertainment program “Showbiz Police.”

Comfy new gig

A dance enthusiast, Lucy said she was very excited about “Celebrity Dance Battle,” which she will cohost with basketball players and models Anthony and David Semerad.

“I’ve never stopped dancing since it’s my form of exercise. I’m more comfortable going into the show now that I’ve become better in the techniques,” related Lucy, who hosted the ballroom dancing contest “Shall We Dance?” from 2005 to 2010.

She added that while she enjoyed dancing the rumba, she was not “half the dancer she wished to be.”

“But I love the learning process,” she said. “What’s important for me is delivering simple but polished numbers.”

Would she try hip-hop? “Oh no, I can’t do that,” she said, laughing.

The show’s first batch of contestants includes actress Valerie Concepcion, model Priscilla Meirelles, transgender beauty queen Kevin Balot and Philippine Basketball Association cager Gary David.

“Usually, celebs have reservations about making mistakes on TV. But it’s all in good fun,” she said.

Hubby’s ex

Meanwhile, Lucy said she was looking forward to her husband Richard Gomez’ upcoming comedy series on TV5 with ex Sharon Cuneta, “My Pirated Family.”

“They’re good friends and it’s nice that they’re working again,” she said, adding that she had always been a fan of the two actors’ work. “I’ve watched all of Richard’s movies, and only missed a few of Sharon’s.”

Asked if she wanted to work with her husband, Lucy said: “He won’t dance and I won’t act! So, I guess I’ll just convince him to be a guest on my show. Pipilitin ko siya mag-practice!”
