Inquirer man in Hollywood reports from red carpet, backstage

RUBEN Nepales

Our indefatigable man in Hollywood, Ruben V. Nepales, will cover this year’s Academy Awards, from the red carpet to the backstage. He will be reporting for Inquirer print, online, Twitter and, communication lines permitting, radio.

As he did last year, Nepales is set to live-tweet, pre-awards show, about developments on the red carpet and his own observations. Then he rushes backstage before the awards rites. From there, following live show proceedings on TV monitors, he will live-tweet announcements of winners, as well as the acceptance remarks, as they are made on the main stage

Backstage is where winners are ushered to after they receive their trophies. Nepales is among the first journalists who will get to interview them. He is writing a behind-the-scenes feature for the Inquirer’s news pages.

Nepales has been writing this section’s thrice-weekly column “Only In Hollywood” since 2005.

The column has featured the biggest and/or most current Hollywood headliners, as well as Filipinos on the world stage.

Nepales’ first book, “My Filipino Connection: The Philippines in Hollywood” (Anvil), is available at National Book Store and via amazon.com. It has won several prizes, including the Migration Advocacy and Media Award in print journalism – book category, presented in December 2012 by the Office of the President of the Philippines’ Commission on Filipinos Overseas.
