For the one that got away

IZA CALZADO shows power of restrained acting.

We at the Cinema Evaluation Board gave “Starting Over Again” a  grade of B. Toni Gonzaga and Piolo Pascual are quite an engaging tandem. Iza Calzado showed the power of restrained acting. I enjoyed the film though the appearance of other male celebs in the latter part somehow lessened the impact of the story.

There I was empathizing with the characters portrayed by Piolo and Toni, then all of a sudden I had to snap out of it because the entry of the male stars reminded me that it was all make-believe. Be that as it may, it’s worth watching just to get into the  post-Valentine groove. It will make you long  for “the one that got away.” The rom-com will make you realize that you  can’t keep on looking for something you already found many heartbeats ago.

FEATURED STORIES

LOLO Buboy presents cake to grandson Josh and daughter Angela.

Cesar Montano was the picture of a doting “Grandpa” to his cute apo, Joshua who turned 1 last Feb. 8. His eldest grandchild, Clyde is already 7.

Buboy hosted an intimate family get-together at his place to celebrate Josh’s birthday. It was so heartwarming to see Buboy make lambing to his mom Emma. He pretended to ask money from her as they talked affectionately in Ilonggo. She is the only woman who will surely never leave Buboy’s side.

He proudly showed me his new mini-recording studio. Composing songs and singing are two of Buboy’s many passions. His latest composition is “Pilipinas.” No party of his is complete if Buboy doesn’t hold an impromptu jamming session with his musician friends.

Buboy is sad that his big project with Iglesia ni Cristo (INC), “Sugo” has  reached a dead end. He was slated to direct the movie with Tikoy Aguiluz.

He would rather not comment on the TRO issued by Tikoy. It’s bewildering why Tikoy took legal action against Buboy since he and INC didn’t reach an agreement about the movie anyway.

Due to time constraints, he would rather not do the movie.   Knowing Buboy, he would never do anything half-baked.  Mediocrity is not in his vocabulary.

Here’s the statement of Buboy’s lawyer, Ivy Fajardo regarding the issue:

“Mr. Montano was informed that he was supposed to direct the movie, ‘Sugo’ with Tikoy Aguiluz. However, Mr. Montano and INC failed to come to an agreement as to his engagement as director for the movie so he would have no knowledge of the status of the movie or the engagement of Mr. Aguiluz. Mr. Montano and INC failed to agree as to the date of the completion of the movie. Mr. Montano refused to agree to a June  completion date because, according to him, an epic film like this, [which] requires computer graphics and special production design [elements] cannot be rushed. He refused to compromise the quality of the film. After the disagreement as to the completion date, INC and Mr. Montano have completely stopped negotiations for his directorial services.”

Pidol app

There is so much fuss about the game, Flappy Bird. But since it has flapped its wings and disappeared, why not check out the game app created in honor of the Comedy King, Dolphy. Just as Pidol always made us laugh, the “Dolphy Clean Up” game will definitely give us something to smile about even while we’re busy doing nothing…

His son, Ronnie Quizon lets us in on the game app:

“One reason for going to the United States was to be with the family for Christmas. Another reason is to promote a new game app that was named after my father, called ‘Dolphy Clean Up.’

“It is the first game app named after a Filipino, if I’m not mistaken. It’s designed by iGen Technologies, Inc., which is based in Seattle, but has an office in Makati. Its staff conducted a survey on which Filipino icon would be best to use for a game app, and my dad came up on top of their list. They approached us and asked if they could use our dad as the game’s ‘hero,’ and consulted us as to how we would want the game to go.

“Due to my dad’s legacy, advocacy and philanthropic work, it was easy to suggest to them a game, wholesome enough for kids ages 5 to 95, that also promotes environmental awareness. Waste management is one of those ideas. Hence, we see Dolphy ‘cleaning up’ in the game.

“Helping other people is another thing my dad was especially known for aside from making people laugh. So, we made arrangements where part of the proceeds would go to the Dolphy Aid Para sa Pinoy Foundation to help fund its many activities.”
