At 17, Kapatid star Jasmine Curtis-Smith knows she still has a lot to learn about romance. She said her short-lived relationship with an Australian boyfriend was an indication that she’s not ready for commitment.

Luckily, the Fil-Australian newbie has big sis Anne to guide her through the labyrinth of love. So far, the most valuable piece of advice Anne has given her, Jasmine said, is to take things slow.

“Ate always says na huwag madaliin ang love kasi it comes when it comes. You’ll never know when or who it will be. It’s all trial and error,” Jasmine told the Inquirer during the recent press launch of her action-drama series on TV5, “Ang Utol Kong Hoodlum.”

The boy should pass Anne’s scrutiny, Jasmine added. “I totally agree with her. The guy should please the girl’s family.”

But, love is the least of her priorities right now, the young star said. She has studies to mind and, of course, a budding show career.

Admittedly, Jasmine’s foray into the biz acting was not planned; stories of long hours and sleepless nights on the job was far from inviting. “When the offer came from TV5, napa-isip talaga ako. Ang daming tao na pangarap gawin to. Sasayangin ko naman if I say no to a blessing,” she said.

Not only has she had a change of heart; she even wants to try writing and directing. “I hope I can work in the industry for a very long time, because I’m enjoying it,” said Jasmine.

Despite an earnest desire to “make my career blossom,” Jasmine understands that show biz is a fickle and fleeting endeavor. Now in Year 11 at the Loyala College in Melbourne, Australia, Jasmine is determined to get a college degree.

“Things can turn around; I may not succeed here, so I need education as backup,” she said.
