Deniece told me she has no boyfriend—Vhong Navarro

MANILA, Philippines—A few hours after checking out of the hospital and appearing at the Department of Justice on Thursday—all the time avoiding press interviews—actor-TV host-comedian Vhong Navarro told broadcaster Korina Sanchez how repentant he’s been after the mauling incident in the condo unit of model Deniece Cornejo involving businessman Cedric Lee and seven others.

“Deniece told me she has no boyfriend,” Navarro told Sanchez in an exclusive interview shown in their home network’s prime-time news program.

He said he was clueless if there was a romantic relationship between Lee and Cornejo. He said he has no idea at all why Lee’s group was there at Cornejo’s condo on the night of January 22, when he was beaten to the pulp and brought to the police station.

“Wala po akong kasalanan kay Deniece, sa girlfriend ko lang (I have done nothing wrong to Deniece, only to my girlfriend),” he added.

Navarro’s non-showbiz girlfriend, based on reports, is named Tanya Bautista, who he has been going out with for five years. Bautista reportedly was a frequent visitor in Navarro’s hospital room.

He thanked his manager, filmmaker Chito Roño, his children, friends and all his fans for the support.

Navarro has two sons from two previous relationships. He was once married to actress Bianca Lapuz, the mother of his firstborn.

“Wala nang urungan ito (There’s no turning back for me),” he told Sanchez.

“Huwag magtitiwala kahit kanino, alamin kung sino kaibigan o hindi (Don’t trust anyone easily. Know your real friends),” Navarro said when asked what he has learned of the whole incident.
