Eugene Domingo, on working with her idol, Nora Aunor, in the mini-series “Sa Ngalan ng Ina” on TV5: “I’m still shy around her. Gusto ko s’ya chikahin, but her role is very serious and intense. Now I know why people call her Superstar. She’s a genius, but I don’t think she knows this. She’s very serious with her work. She listens intently to instructions. She doesn’t mind rehearsing scenes. Contrary to reports, she’s never late. She comes to the set already made up and prepared. That’s why I never arrive late, either. I don’t feel nervous working with her at all, but I feel giddy. I still couldn’t believe that I’m working with someone I idolized so much while growing up.”
Follies in Davao
Partners Pocholo Malillin and Cris Nicolas could take it easy now but it just isn’t in their nature. So they continue to nurture their pioneering Club Mwah on Boni Avenue in Mandaluyong—Pocholo as general manager, Cris as creative director by periodically revamping its staple show, an eye-popping Vegas-meets-Broadway revue titled “Bedazzled.” Now in its 11th version, the show goes onstage Thursdays to Saturdays at 9 p.m.
It used to be tagged a “gay revue.” Not anymore. It’s now a mixed-gender program, with a cast of… okay, still mostly gays (a number of them stunning operadas), plus pretty, energetic and talented gerlalus and CP (cutie pie) male dancers. Mwah’s tag as the only DOT-accredited Tourism Entertainment Club isn’t hard to defend. Five minutes into the show and the reason becomes apparent.
The troupe has been touring of late. Its latest excursion was in Davao City and Tagum, for last month’s Dinagyang Festival.
Angel at PDI
Angel Locsin was a recent guest at the Inquirer, where she talked for more than two hours to some writers and editors—and took notes!—as part of her preparation for a coming movie. In the Star Cinema project to be directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina, Angel is cast as a journalist! Thus, the “immersion.”
During the conversations, Angel impressed even non-cinema fans by asking sensible questions about the job.
