We are probably going to celebrate Christmas in Las Vegas because I am back on stage there until March. My mom already did her Christmas dinner with the whole family in October so that was very memorable. I learned through the years that it doesn’t matter really if you are spending Christmas in July or December, as long as you make things happen and it makes you feel wonderful to spend time with the people that you love.
Time is very precious. Life imposes things on you. You don’t choose what’s going to happen. It’s written and it’s a good thing that we are not quite sure what happens. I hope people will talk to each other and reach people’s hearts on a bigger scale. I think society and people in general are trying to look for complex things most of the time. Can we just look for one moment, really go through the simplicity of emotions?

One of my brothers brought me to skeet shooting for Christmas. So we went skeet shooting and that was really fun. It’s weirdly a nice place to have a conversation except the “Bang! Bang!” in between our conversations.

I just love cooking on Christmas. I will cook turkey—stuff it. I love the smell in the kitchen. I love the family being there. I love all the rituals of the holidays. I am a sucker for them.

I am currently knitting a very intricate scarf for my husband (Daniel Moder) for Christmas. It would be a miracle if it’s done by Christmas. We’ll see.

Christmas is a beautiful time to be with your family. Of course, if you have kids, the meaning is different because you get so many memories from your own childhood and what Christmas meant to you. For me, it has always been about the family being together. The best part of the celebration is that everybody is together like one big family.
