Paul Rudd cast as superhero Ant-Man in Marvel film

NEW YORK—Paul Rudd has been cast as Ant-Man in Edgar Wright’s superhero film about a scientist who can shrink himself down to the size of an insect.

Marvel Studios announced Rudd’s casting in the film “Ant-Man” on Thursday.

The 44-year-old actor is starring in “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.” He’ll play scientist Henry “Hank” Pym, who uses a chemical substance to change his size to fight crime.

The comic book studio says in a statement Rudd was its first choice for Ant-Man and his casting reflects its “desire to cast actors that bring several dimensions to its onscreen heroes.”

Wright is the British comedy director of “The World’s End.” He’s been developing the film since 2006.

Disney will release “Ant-Man” in July 2015.
