Dominic “Papadom” Gamboa, founding leader of the local band Tropical Depression, died of kidney failure Wednesday morning, according to the Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit. He was 47.
Gamboa, who also became part of the bands Betrayed, Skavengers and Lokal Brown, was to have turned 48 yesterday.
One of the pioneers of punk and reggae in the local music scene, Gamboa formed Tropical Depression in the early 1990s with Lito Crisostomo (guitar), Pexx Holigores (bass), TJ Espinola (keyboards), Mike Llacar (keyboards), Omnie Saroca (drums, percussion) and Lala Lejeune (backup vocals). The band is best known for such hits as “Kapayapaan” and “Bilog na Naman ang Buwan.”
