Essence of gift-giving

/ 12:05 AM December 14, 2013

A friend who’s working in a hospital related how its staff exchanged gifts for its Christmas party. The price of the gifts was set at P500 and above. But, the identity of the gift-givers was soon divulged, and the participants began specifying what they preferred to receive—a laptop bag, a gas stove, clothes, shoes, etc.

The holiday season is supposed to celebrate the coming of Christ, and we hope that people will be happy doing what pleases Jesus. By following His example, we will taste the nectar of love, peace and joy. Some words of wisdom:

Don’t crave for material things that don’t bring true satisfaction. Desire gifts that are spiritual for they shall touch the core of your being and bring you joy and peace.

Real gift-giving is unconditional.  It doesn’t come with a specific value.

The gifts of patience, wisdom, compassion, tolerance and caring are worth more than anything money can buy. Give it freely—and daily!

If you receive the treasures of spiritual wisdom and love from Jesus Christ, your heart will have so much to share with everyone. His greatest teaching is to love the Supreme Father and His children.

Gift-giving shouldn’t be an obligation or duty. It should come from the heart.

The best gifts cannot be stolen or destroyed.

Don’t ask for gifts—be the giver. We get more happiness and satisfaction that way.

It’s easier to buy things than share our time and love with others.

Jesus loved animals, and they loved him, too. Don’t feast on animals to celebrate the birth of Christ! Eat healthy.

Offer the greatest gifts to the Supreme Being—our love and life. That is the true essence of Christmas!
