MANILA, Philippines – Jessica Sanchez on Monday showed her support for survivors of Supertyphoon “Yolanda” with the launch of her new single “Lead Me Home.”
“I’m glad to help, to give back to my people in any way that I can,” Sanchez told INQUIRER.net in a press conference at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza in Manila.
The singer, who is of Filipino and Mexican descent, said all the proceeds from the song’s sales will be donated to the Red Cross for the benefit of typhoon-hit communities.
“I really, really was devastated by this tragedy,” the 18-year old singer said of the typhoon that left thousands of people dead.
In a message to Filipinos affected by the typhoon, she said, “I love you guys so much. I hope all of you are safe.”
Sanchez narrated how she was approached by the Riverdance production to lend her talents for their album.
“They asked me to lay my vocals on one of their tracks and I said, ‘Of course!’ And just so happened we recorded this song and we decided that we want to release it early…for the victims of the typhoon,” she said.
Sanchez, who became famous through American Idol, also recently released her debut album “Me, You & the Music.”
Her song “Lead Me Home” will be included in the benefit album “Songs for the Philippines” featuring other international musicians.
