Beats drop for ‘Yolanda’ survivors

MANILA, Philippines — Last November 21, two weeks after Supertyphoon “Yolanda” dropped unprecedented devastation in Eastern Visayas, the bass was dropped as part of a charity concert for the hard-stricken survivors.

Republiq joined the efforts for the rehabilitation of Eastern Visayas by staging a concert dubbed “United Republiq: An electronic music assembly” at the Mall of Asia Concert Grounds.

An estimated P7,000,000, collected from the talent fees of the performing disc jockeys, was donated to the Yolanda survivors.

DJ Axwell headlined the concert dropping confetti and shooting fireworks in the middle of the performance.

The third member of what was once was the Swedish House Mafia climbed atop the table and waved a Philippine flag while playing the group’s hit “Don’t You Worry Child.”

“Remember to be strong, stay strong Philippines,” said Axwell during his performance.

Another DJ, Nicky Romero also gave his message to the Filipinos during his performance.

“In this way (concert) we can help the people get back up,” said Romero, whose hit songs include Toulouse, Solar and Wild One Two. “This is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever played in.”

Dance song duo NO_ID, however, was not able to finish their performance after technical problems that cut the power on the stage and lights halted their show.

Local DJs Martin Pulgar, resident DJ of Republiq Super Club, Ace Ramos and Mars Miranda fronted the concert.
