The calamity that hit Tacloban and other Visayan provinces has been devastating. A relative shares, “My sister’s daughter is in Tacloban. So far, there’s no news about how she is, and my sister is on the verge of a nervous breakdown.”
Some time ago, when a friend was rushed to the hospital after she had a stroke, our teacher told us, “Don’t panic. There are things we can’t control. After all, this world is not our permanent home.” Some sobering reminders to help us get through the heartache and devastation:
The sky that appears clearly gets dark when it’s surrounded by clouds.
Death doesn’t exempt anyone, whether he’s a king or a beggar.
All of us are born naked; all of us are destined for death.

Worry not about death for, unlike money, it need not be sought.
Death and the sun are two things no man can outdo or outshine!
An atheist who denies the existence of the Supreme Being will be shaken by death. He will be thrown into confusion as he’s taken out of his body by forces greater than himself. He will be compelled to submit to the powers of the Supreme, whose devotees find inner peace in the realization that the Supreme Beloved protects them from any danger.
Supertyphoon “Yolanda” has made us reevaluate our understanding of life and its value. Are we going to break down and be held captive by our insecurities and fears? Or, are we going to accept the reality of the world’s miseries and yearn for genuine shelter in the spiritual dimension? Let’s be brave and helpful to our fellowmen!
