CHEN. Used his art to preach God’s word
There’s more to paintings created by the late Chinese artist, Chen Bing-Sun, than meets the eye—each of them has a message. Aside from his detailed brush paintings, Chen’s works became famous because of the Bible verses he inscribed on his canvases—he used his art to preach God’s message!
Chen Bing-Sun is known as the Father of Chinese Brush Painting here and was instrumental in keeping the medium alive. He first came to Manila in the ’40s, and chose to settle down here.
He helped establish the Chinese Artists’ Guild. In 1988, he succumbed to cancer.
Next year, his legacy will be honored by his children and students in an exhibit of 25 of his paintings at the Century Park Sheraton Hotel.
On Nov. 16 to 24, the Cultural Center of the Philippines will present Chen’s paintings in the exhibit, “His Legacy, Our Heritage,” at the CCP Pasilyo Vicente Manansala.
