Not to be missed

It’s been decades since US President John F. Kennedy was assassinated at the height of his high-flying political career, but interest in him and his triumphant yet tragic life story remains strong. That’s why it’s expected that the new History Channel mini-series, “The Kennedys,” will be a hit when it unreels from Sept. 19 to 22. We’ll be watching!

‘Contagion’

Also on our should-see list is the film, “Contagion”—not because we’re a fan of “epidemic” movies, but because Steven Soderbergh’s film boasts of a truly exceptional all-star cast. —Would you believe, Matt Damon, Marion Cotillard, Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow and Kate Winslet all in one movie?

The big challenge for the filmmaker is to give each one of his gifted thespians his or her “moment,” to make their participation in the thriller-chiller worth their thespic while.

‘William’

This year, Peta is engaging in several initiatives to make the works of William Shakespeare accessible and interesting to today’s young Filipinos. That’s a tall order, and also an important mission, so we are boosting it by plugging their current effort in that regard:

“William,” an original play by Ron Capinding, “uses poetry, word play, rap and lyricism to tell the story of a group of students who don’t find meaning in studying Shakespeare.” Performances ongoing until Sept. 25. Call 410-0821.

‘Gelena’s  Living Art’

Ever since Eggie Apostol introduced us to Elena Roces at her Morita restaurant some years ago, we’ve admired the lovely near-nonagenarian known for her many creative pursuits. That’s why we’re looking forward to viewing “Morita’s” latest exhibit of “living art” (artworks you can use) from Sept. 7 to 11 at Greenbelt 5. The lady and her diverse works are truly—one of a kind!

Angel Awareness workshop

Also right up our heavenly alley is the Basic Angel Awareness workshop to be conducted by Nonoy Ozaeta at 2 p.m. on Sept. 3 at the Ripples Book and Gift Shop, Robinsons Galleria, Edsa. Call 340-1214.
