Jethro’s inspiration

JOCSON. His paintings are part of LRI’s “Artmoves” exhibit.

Some people have it, some don’t. What we’re talking about is the so-called “third eye.” The subject comes up during a conversation with Jethro Jocson about what inspires an artist to express himself.

Where does Jethro’s inspiration come from? Jethro discloses, “You know, I have an unfinished painting about pigs. Before the Napoles-led scam exploded, I was painting vigorously about pigs—which society identifies metaphorically as rude, abusive and dirty! What’s strange about it was, I painted a person holding a scythe in front of some pigs. Its title is ‘The Savior,’ But, I have been unable to finish it yet—I don’t know why.”

Unfortunate events

“I see portents of unfortunate events, like the tsunami in Japan that led to the nuclear scare. I was painting when I felt sleepy. My wife woke me up, because I was shouting, ‘Tsunami!’”

Jethro isn’t comfortable about  his brushes with the occult. Along with other talented visual artists, his  paintings are on view in the exhibit, “Artmoves,” at  LRI Art Pavilion, 210 Nicanor Garcia st., Bel-Air II, Makati City (call 0915 543-0482).
