Mae Ann Narvaez, nurse: “Now that ‘My Husband’s Lover’ is about to end, Carla Abellana should be showcased in other challenging roles that will further hone her acting ability. She has talent and good looks, and registers beautifully onscreen. The camera loves her!”
Other notes:
Benjie Morales, televiewer: “I understand that TV networks showing foreign blockbusters want to reach a bigger audience by dubbing them in Filipino. But, more often than not, the out-of-sync dubbing gets in the way of our viewing pleasure.
“The fact that people know the actual voices of many popular actors compromises the viewing and listening experience. So, why not use Filipino subtitles, instead? I get the same uncomfortable feeling when NBA matches shown on local TV are annotated by our sportscasters, who are generally too loquacious for comfort!”
Detached
Alice Maliksi, housewife: “Now I understand why Maricel Soriano was dissatisfied with Gerald Anderson’s acting and had to leave ‘Bukas Na Lang Kita Mamahalin.’ In a recent telecast, I didn’t feel at all the supposed pain he was experiencing—not in his eyes or facial expression, etc. He seemed detached from his character, despite the bruises on his face and body.”
Nitz Dagdagan, office manager: “Have we run out of talented actors and actresses? We see the same overexposed faces and acting styles in the major networks’ teleseryes. If their casting teams would only work harder, there are other Richard Yaps out there just waiting to be cast!”
Chiqui Mendez, office employee: “It’s good to know that Aga Muhlach is doing something to get rid of his extra weight. His effort was beginning to show when I saw him on his latest TV game show recently. Let’s hope other ‘big’ stars will follow suit—unless they want to end up as comedians!”
