Who can match Megan’s smashing feat?

YOUNG. Her risky gamble has paid off bigtime. FILE PHOTO

Some months ago, we wrote about Megan Young’s “risky” decision to join the Ms World-Philippines beauty pageant, unlike most other TV-film stars who don’t want to face the embarrassing possibility of failure and thus exposing themselves to jibes and bashing from all quarters.

Well, Megan’s gamble has paid off bigtime, with her smashing victory as the very first Filipina Ms World, so kudos to her—and, more to the point, we look forward to the prospect of seeing other lovely stars similarly vying for the privilege of representing Filipina pulchritude in international beauty tilts.

Global beauty

We daresay that some of our show biz lovelies could also romp off with top awards for “global” beauty, so Megan’s victory may only be the first of even more breathtakingly beautiful feats to come!

Will Marian Rivera be the next to do the honors (—if she’s tall enough)? Megan’s younger sister, Lauren, is another distinct prospect, especially for teen beauty tilts. What about Isabelle Daza? —Any other “stellarly beautiful” suggestions, dear reader?

Truth to tell, the link between stars and beauty tilts isn’t all that new. Yes, most of the time, it’s the other way around, with international beauty tilt winners like Gloria Diaz, Margie Moran and many others going on to star in a movie—or more!

But, we do recall that some lovely stars figured in beauty tilts or “beautifully represented” the country in festivities abroad. So, just wait for the “traffic” to go in this other direction in a big way, now that Megan had chalked up her first, buena mano win in the Ms World competition.

Finally, congratulations are also in order for Cory Quirino, who has taken over the task of running the Ms World-Philippines search.

In only a couple of years, she has already fielded last year’s Ms World first runnerup, Gwendolyn Ruais, and Megan has followed up with her clear win this year! This says a lot about Cory’s discerning eye for standout beauties—so, kudos to her, too!
