It’s just a matter of taste

MITOY MYX.COM.PH

With the The Voice of The Philippines coming to a recent end and with Mitoy Yonting of Team Lea being declared the winner of the grand finals, I realized three things throughout the run of the show based on my own observation and on the patterns of the Coaches when it came to critiquing the contestants.

Here they are:

1 Being a crowd pleaser is a definite plus.

2 A lengthy experience in singing before a live audience, thus one becoming a seasoned performer, is a major factor. It becomes an advantage especially when he is presented with challenges in the show.

3 It seems singing old time favorites and classics (at least, in this season) does raise one’s chances considerably of winning over the crowd to vote for you.

I believe Mitoy Yonting realized all of these along the way–and even knew these and more beforehand– because he is already a professional and he managed to play his cards right!

Somehow he reminded me of the late Freddie Mercury of the iconic band Queen.

Mitoy showed a similar bravado and commanding presence onstage. He goes down as the first ever champion of The Voice of The Philippines for Season 1. He has set the template for future champions to follow.

With that said and acknowledged, most of us viewers at home had our own favorites whether it was from Team Bamboo, Team Sarah, Team Lea and Team Apl.de.Ap. Only one Team could say that their best member won!

As for me, I was rooting for Klarisse de Guzman from Team Sarah to win the grand finals of Season 1.

Unfortunately, her final showing was what got her to lose. Her muddled enunciation in the beginning of her song and her rather stiff performance were surely not lost on the audience and judges. However, I still see much promise in her because throughout the show’s run, she began to tap more and more into her full potential under the tutelage of Coach Sarah Geronimo.

With that much overall talent displayed by a finalist like Klarisse de Guzman, it is safe to say that we haven’t seen the last of her. Who knows, somewhere down the road, she could be given a recording contract or made a regular mainstay in a music and dance oriented show ? It is a no-brainer that major record labels have already taken notice of her, will snatch her up, and give her another platform to showcase her talent. Perhaps a successful debut album is in the offing for Klarisse de Guzman ? And it doesn’t necessarily mean it will be MCA Universal who will sign her up !
