‘Gayserye’ bids goodbye

/ 10:09 PM September 29, 2013

CARLA Abellana says MHL is the show she has become most attached to and will miss it when it ends Oct. 11.

Just like any  avid viewer of “My Husband’s Lover,” I am quite sad that the hit “gay-serye” is wrapping up soon.

Saying goodbye to Eric, Lally and Vincent (the characters played by Dennis Trillo, Carla Abellana and Tom Rodriguez) is giving  me separation anxiety.

I will surely have to endure  withdrawal symptoms after MHL’s last episode is aired on October 11.

FEATURED STORIES

The antidote to this would be to recapture the show’s poignant moments in its DVD edition and to catch the MHL concert, “One More Try,” on October 12 at the Big Dome.

Since I have a gay son (IC Mendoza, whom I fondly refer to as my “DalaGay”), MHL  helped me understand him and his inner workings in ways I never imagined.

Bravo to the entire cast and crew, especially Carla, Tom and Dennis,  for letting us experience not something else but something more.

How do you feel now that “My Husband’s Lover” is about to end?

Carla: Honestly, I don’t know how to feel. I feel fulfilled and sad at the same time. This is the show I am  attached to the most; it’s going to be very difficult to let go.

Dennis: Frankly speaking, medyo bitin ako … I hoped it would run  a little longer.

What’s next for you after MHL?

C: The concert is on the day after our final episode [is aired] so we’re  working double time to prepare for that, too. In November, we will have an MHL tour in the US. Hopefully, when I come back, we will resume shooting my new movie with Tom, “Let’s Take a Chance.”

D: I really don’t know what’s next in line for me. I can’t imagine portraying a character that will surpass or at least be at par with  Eric. Definitely, mahihirapan akong kumawala kay Eric.

What did portraying Lally/Eric teach you?

“CAREFUL, Careful” by Dennis Garcia

C: That a woman can endure so much pain, physically and emotionally. That a mother’s weakness is truly her children and that, in some point in a woman’s life, she has to make painful decisions for the sake of her family.

D: Playing a role like Eric is very tricky. It requires 100 percent focus. This made me realize that hard work and dedication truly work wonders.

What can we expect from “MHL the Concert”?

C: It’s going to be an extravaganza. It’s the usual  thanksgiving-variety show. It’s a concert complete with an orchestra and dancers from Ballet Philippines.

D: It’s  not your ordinary concert.  Expect musical production numbers from your favorite MHL cast members. It will be a special night.

Hotdog art

I am eagerly anticipating the art/music event of my cool friend, Dennis Garcia of Hotdog and other maverick artists, “Pers Lab Atbp.” which will be held at the Art Galileia, Bonifacio Global City, from October 4 to 14 .

The paintings in the exhibit are an interpretation of the playful lyrics of Hotdog’s timeless hits.

One of their songs, “Careful, Careful,” was the theme of my mom Inday Badiday’s iconic talk show in the 1980s, “See True.”

Not too many people know that it was Zsa Zsa Padilla who did the vocals of that catchy tune.

I am touched beyond words that Dennis is paying homage to my mom by making  a painting inspired by “Careful, Careful.” According to Dens, it’s the biggest painting  in the exhibit. All for the sake of art, with a lot of heart.
