MANILA, Philippines – Young filmmakers will now have more time to perfect their movies made from their own mobile phones as the Cinephone Film Festival will continue to accept short film entries from students until October 4.
Organized by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), the cellphone movie-making contest would be open to all currently enrolled high school and college students, MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said in a statement.
Those interested should submit a duly accomplished entry form together with the synopsis of the story and the contestant’s proof of enrolment, he said.
Tolentino said amateur college filmmakers could also participate in the New Wave Student Short Film Festival.
“The concept of change must come from the youth. Let us give them opportunity to espouse ingenious ideas and contribute to the development of the film industry,” Tolentino said.
He said that the short film tertiary students could submit entries that would not exceed 20 minutes and which have not been entered in other film competitions. The movies must come in AVI format stored in five playable DVDs.
Selected New Wave films will be shown from December 18 to 24 at Glorietta and SM cinemas.
Meanwhile, the MMDA has made room for young animated filmmakers’ talents as well.
The first Animation category was opened by the MMDA to all Filipino professional or amateur student animators. Entries must have a maximum running time of twelve minutes and have not in any way been commercially shown here or abroad.
Entries to the Full Feature category should not have been featured in other local and international festivals and must have a total running time of 75 minutes.
The announcement said entries to all categories may be submitted personally or through mail to the MMFF Secretariat at the Office of the Chairman, EDSA corner Orense Streets, Guadalupe Nuevo, Makati City.
