Actress-performer Anne Curtis has much to smile about: E! News Asia is featuring her in an “E! News Asia Special” exclusive.
In a video where he introduced clips of Anne’s feature, “E! News” host Jason Kennedy described her voice as “soothing.”
Nervous
During a press conference at Buddha Bar in Makati recently, a giddy Anne said, “I couldn’t help laughing when I heard the host say that. I’m not a good singer but my voice is improving.”
She was nervous, Anne added, because she didn’t know what her peers said about her in the feature. But overall, she said, she was “thrilled.” Sam Milby, Luis Manzano, Piolo Pascual and Martin Nievera were among those interviewed.
“It’s crazy,” the actress-TV host shrieked. “But it’s truly an honor, and I just want to thank E! for choosing me as the first Filipino celebrity to have an exclusive special.”
In his introduction, Kennedy mentioned Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj as two other celebrities featured by E! before they hit it big.
Jumped for joy
“I can’t believe this,” Anne said, gesturing at the E! logo onstage. “To be mentioned alongside such big stars … a dream come true, yet again.”
Punctuating the memory with another shriek, the “It’s Showtime” host revealed she literally jumped for joy upon receiving the news. The first person she shared it with, she said, was her boyfriend, food blogger Erwan Heussaff.
For the E! feature, Anne was filmed for four days as she went about her daily commitments—from glamorous show biz dealings to less glitzy tasks, like minding her garage sale.
Amazing
She recounted, “It was an amazing experience; you don’t even notice they’re following you around. I don’t remember everything that happened. You forget there’s a camera there and you’re wearing a lapel [microphone].”
As to which segment of the feature she was most proud of, she said, decisively: “I think ‘Showtime’ would be a big part because it was us sharing what other countries might not have, which is the sense of having a noontime variety show. Not a lot of people understand that. My dad didn’t understand it when he first came here. But it’s part of our culture.”
Anne carried on, answering all inquiries with disarming humor, and bubbling with enthusiasm as usual. What she wanted included in the special, but wasn’t, elicited much mirth: “What I would have loved to be part of [the special] that wasn’t, would be how my voice sounds in the bathroom. I’m not kidding. The echo in the bathroom, it really compliments my voice somehow!”
Anne declared that she never sugarcoated what she was: “Maybe that’s why, when I make mistakes, it’s still OK with everyone.”
Sneak preview
But she hoped she’d look good in the feature, despite her imperfections. “I hope I didn’t curse at any point,” she said about what might have ended on the cutting room floor.
In the brief sneak preview, Milby, Anne’s ex-boyfriend, gave this testimony: “Three words that describe Anne … fun, genuine, hard-working.”
Manzano described her as “makulit.” Charlene Gonzalez said she was “down-to-earth, talented, and beautiful inside and out.”
