Lav Diaz is among the filmmakers who will be featured in the Zabaltegi section of the 61st San Sebastian International Film Festival in Spain, set Sept. 20 to 28. Diaz’s four-hour epic “Norte, Hangganan ng Kasaysayan” will be shown, along with the short film, “Prologue to the Great Desaparecido.” The fest website describes the short as the “introduction to one of Diaz’s most important films… which questions truth and history.”

After Spain, “Norte” will proceed to the 26th Tokyo International Film Festival in Japan, which runs Oct. 17 to 25. “Norte” will be featured in the World Focus section, which showcases “must-see films that were acclaimed in various international film fests… important works by noted directors,” the website says.

After premiering in Cannes in May, “Norte” was included in the Karlovy Vary, Locarno, Toronto and other international film fests, Diaz told the Inquirer.
