‘Cuchera’ goes to Toronto

And now there are four. Joseph Israel Laban’s “Cuchera,” an entry in this year’s Cinemalaya, joins three other Filipino movies going to the Toronto International Film Festival, to be held September 8 to 18. Laban told the Inquirer Entertainment that “Cuchera” is part of the Discovery section, while Lav Diaz’s “Siglo ng Pagluluwal (Century of Birthing)” and Adolfo Alix Jr.’s “Isda (Fable of the Fish)” are in Visions, and Raya Martin’s short film “Ars Colonia” in Wavelengths. The Toronto web site describes “Cuchera” as “one of the most shocking debuts in recent Filipino cinema.” Bayani San Diego Jr.
