‘Maynila’ goes to Toronto

After debuting in Cannes, the digitally restored version of Lino Brocka’s “Maynila sa mga Kuko ng Liwanag” will be shown at the Toronto International Film Festival next month. The fest website described the 1975 classic as a “brilliant fusion of florid melodrama and gritty realism … presented in a dazzling 4K restoration … widely considered the greatest Philippine film of all time.” Bayani San Diego Jr.
