2 Filipinos in Venice special shorts section
Two Filipino filmmakers will join a special section to mark the 70th anniversary of the Venice International Film Festival in Italy from Aug. 28 to Sept. 7. Lav Diaz and Brillante Ma. Mendoza are part of the “70 Directors for Venice 70” program. Diaz made an 83-second short, “The Firefly”; Mendoza, a 90-seconder, “Kamera.” Diaz and Mendoza will join the likes of Bernardo Bertolucci, Atom Egoyan, Claire Denis, Abbas Kiarostami and other directors, who are considered among those who made the history of the fest. Diaz and Mendoza were both honorees in the first Inquirer Indie Bravo Tribute. Bayani San Diego Jr.
