New TV star vows not to be a copycat
MANILA, Philippines—Lauren Young has confidence to spare. The 17-year-old Kapamilya star told Inquirer Entertainment that she had no plans, whatsoever, of watching the original ABS-CBN drama series, “Mula sa Puso.”
She top-bills the remake of the 1990s soap, reprising Olivia “Via” Pereira, the role first played by Claudine Barretto.
“I was only 3 when it first aired (1997-1999),” Lauren explained. “I’d rather not watch the DVD because I don’t want to copy Ms Claudine.”
She has vowed to tackle the role her way. This is the remake’s fifth week. “I’m putting a little spice to the role,” she said. “Via is supposed to be sweet, loving and caring, but I’d like her to be more assertive. I’ve added some me into her.”
Lauren costars with dreamboat Enrique Gil in the series. “He’s easy to work with,” she said. “But romance is out of the question—can’t let it get in the way of work. I’m a professional.”
She is also in the cast of the indie horror comedy “Zombadings: Patayin sa Shokot si Remington,” with Mart Escudero, Janice de Belen and Eugene Domingo. “It’s my first comedy,” she noted. “It was fun making it, but I realized that comedy is not my forte. I’m not funny; I prefer drama.”
