Variations on old themes

FUENTES. Subtle and graceful portrayal.

Mercedes Villanueva, civic leader: “I have been watching TV programs for several years, and I note with alarm the deterioration of stories, particularly in teleseryes using variations on similar themes. Apparently, some current shows are merely rehashes of previous stories.

“Why can’t we tackle issues like the perils of aging, moving on after the break-up of a union, self-fulfillment, etc.? These are issues that will raise the consciousness of viewers.

Other notes:

Victor Calumpit, social worker: “I’ve watched a few entries in this year’s Cinemalaya, and I believe that there’s hope for Philippine cinema.

“The current crop of filmmakers aren’t only talented, they’re also innovative, creative and full of promise. Their films should be shown in schools, because that’s where young audiences are!”

Demeanor

Lizbeth Organo-Obal, televiewer: “I’ve never been hooked to a teleserye until ‘Be Careful With My Heart.’ The show is wholesome, well-acted, and depicts real-life scenarios!”

Jojo Melendrez, televiewer: “Amalia Fuentes is in top form. She not only looks great, but her acting is also good. She recently played her role as a compassionate doctor on ‘Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala’ with subtlety and grace. Here’s hoping that we’ll see more of her!”
