7th High: Dress to chill

/ 06:05 PM August 22, 2011

Since I’m a certified lunar-powered creature, I gamely joined Jose Haresco when he invited me to hang out at his cool super club, 7th High, on High Street at the Fort.

Partying there is like being in three places at one time. It has a club room where you can dance to the chart-toppers and newest mixing styles of DJs; a lounge where you can wine and dine while enjoying live performances, from soothing acoustics to comedy acts; and a VIP floor. Perfect setup for those who have three dates in one night. Am I giving you ideas?

There’s something for everyone at the newest nightspot in town. Since its grand launch in March, world-renowned DJs like Discotech, DJ Tay James, DJ Ross One and 5-time DMC champion DJ Craze have already performed. Bruno Mars, apl.de.ap, Michael Copon, Poreotics, Kenny Hamilton, Mayday Parade and Legaci have also hung out and rubbed elbows with their Pinoy fans.

FEATURED STORIES

“There are many clubs out there. It’s a healthy competition,” says Jose. “But I’d like to believe that we have found our niche. When people come to my club, I want them to feel instantly at home whether they’re in the mood for dance music, a romantic dinner or a crazy fun night with the band. They can all find it under one roof.”

Jose takes on different projects to cater to the distinguished tastes of his club’s growing clientele. “Recently, a theater group from Singapore mounted a collection of love plays, ‘Its Almost Maine,’ in the club room,” he says. “We are open to infuse fresh ideas to redefine leisure and entertainment. My club is drug-free. You get a natural high just partying here.”

On the night I was there, the country’s top designers and models held a fashion show for charity at the dance club which was jam-packed. “We will continue to tie up with several organizations on a monthly basis through a series of fundraising events,” Jose pointed out. “We have thrown benefit parties for CRIBS and ICanServe.”

Party hard, try harder to give back to others so they too can party on.

Food trip

I immensely enjoyed the food-tasting of their new dishes, whipped up by a renowned team of chefs led by the superb father and son tandem of chef Gene and Gino Gonzales (Center for Asian Culinary Studies), which was launched last August 16.

“Forget the usual sisig and lumpiang shanghai served in super clubs,” says chef Gene. “We’ve come up with a menu to fit the sophisticated look of the place. And the cocktails will be something out of this world because we will use science in mixing it.”
I feasted on their salmon and tuna carpaccio, mison marinated steak, teriyaki salad, kani sarada pasta, grilled chicken wraps, mini Japanese corn pizza, chocolate truffle sampler and boneless lechon with onion jam and asado sauce. I ate to the point of gluttony!

Live acts

This month, lounge singer Mina and pianist Zarah Bertulfo perform Tuesday nights; Arpie and the Multivitamins on Wednesdays; Sunny and Sunshine on Thursdays; balladeer Mike Chan on Fridays; and hearthrob Markki Stroem of “Pilipinas Got Talent” on Discovery Saturdays.

Come party at the one stop hotspot. It’s “one club, fits all.” At 7th High (www.7thhigh.com), you always should be dressed to chill!
