A bitterTweet story
EVERYONE was shocked at Cristy Fermin’s explosive scoop about estranged couple Aiko Melendez and Bulacan Mayor Patrick Meneses in our show “Paparazzi” on TV5. She presented copies of an alleged exchange of tweets between Aiko and a gay friend posted on their Twitter accounts.
Based on the tweets, Aiko and her gay friend were scheming to make it seem that Patrick has a gay lover. The dashing mayor’s jaw fell as he browsed through the tweets.

He has filed libel charges against Aiko and several tabloid columnists.
Hacked?
I asked Aiko for her sentiments on the expose. “I am in a state of shock,” she laments. “Patrick knows my Twitter password. I am not accusing him of inventing those direct messages. But how in the world were they able to access my account if they didn’t hack it? It’s weird because some close friends of mine like you, Kat de Castro and Ogie Diaz have been blocked from my account even if I didn’t block anybody.”
Aiko has been through hell and back in the name of love. Now her heart is in limbo. How much more pain must she endure before she gets to paradise?
It’s sad that matters have gone out of hand. Former partners in the domestic front will now slug it out in the battlefront.
Who’s meddling?
If Patrick is indeed gay, only he and Aiko know for sure. There are things that happen between a couple inside the bedroom which nobody can ever be privy to. As an old Pinoy saying goes, Mahirap makialam sa away mag-asawa (or an ex live-in couple like Aiko and Pat for that matter).
But even if it was really Aiko who sent those foul messages, it’s not for us to judge her. We cannot think her thoughts nor feel her feelings. Every breakup means various things to different people.
Aiko is in good terms with her other exes, Jomari Yllana (dad of Andre) and chef Martin Jickain (dad of Marthena). But it didn’t happen overnight.
Sweet gone sour
There comes a point when pain and love give way to friendship. Time will eventually take away the bitter aftertaste of a sweet romance gone sour. Hopefully when the wounds have healed, Aiko and Patrick can be friends, too, for the sake of whatever they’ve shared.
So, is he or isn’t he (gay)? Did she or didn’t she (send those Twitter direct messages)? While we’re at it, maybe we should also step back and remind ourselves that love is indeed (gender, age and race) blind. One love fits all.
The raging war between Aiko and Patrick ought to make us examine our own relationships, too. Whether we are in the hello or goodbye stage or somewhere in between, we should give it our all because in the end, memories are all we have left.
To paraphrase one of my fave quotes: “Dance like nobody’s watching. Work like you don’t need the money. Live like it’s heaven on earth and love like nobody’s stalking you on Twitter.”
May the bitterTweet love story of Aiko and Patrick have its redeeming factor in the long run.
