‘My Husband’s Lover’ makes its unique mark

“My Husband’s Lover” may be the current toast of TV town, but it has also been the object of a roast on a recent telecast of “Pepito Manaloto,” as well as spoofs on various comedy programs. —Which just goes to show that the “oddly” triangular tale has made its unique mark on the local telecasting scene, and bids fair to keep viewers watching—that is, if the series’ writers can think up enough new plot developments and permutations to keep them “intrigued!”

To date, Lally, the classically clueless wife in the story, has finally caught her hubby and his gay lover “in the act”—or TV’s decorous version thereof (just as they’re about to “passionately” osculate).

Realization

—Well, what now? Of course, there’ll be the devil to pay, plus protestations and anguished mea culpas galore, as well as the missus’ stunned realization that, all this time, she has been sharing her husband’s heart—and body—with a gay rival. All those post-discovery upheavals make for tempestuous melodrama—but, what happens right after the volcano has exploded?

Logic has it that, now that the cat is out of the bag, events have to speedily surge to an early conclusion and denouement.

—But, given the series’ current popularity, that would be like wringing the neck of the goose that’s been laying all those golden ratings eggs for GMA.

Given the limitations imposed on gay-themed drama on a generally “GP” medium like television, what further complications can the series’ sleep-deprived writers conjure up that will keep the story profitably unspooling, even after its major bone of contention has been exposed?

Will the conflict’s focus shift to the wife, who may want to save her marriage for the sake of her children? If so, will she come to some sort of modus vivendi with her “disgraced” husband? —But, that line of plotting can’t really be sustained for long, because it would present her as an even bigger wimp and “martyr” than before. —So, what now?!
