The Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival, now on its ninth year, has chosen “Jazz in Love” and “Burgos” to be its opening and closing films, respectively, reports festival director Chris Millado.

Baby Ruth Villarama-Gutierrez’s documentary “Jazz in Love” tells the story of a Filipino gay man who awaits the arrival of his German boyfriend. Joel Lamangan’s “Burgos”  is about the crusading mother of missing activist Jonas. The fest will be held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines from July 26 to Aug. 4—with satellite venues at Greenbelt 3, TriNoma and Alabang Town Center. Bayani San Diego Jr.
