KC, renaissance woman
CONCEPCION. Impressive characterization in “Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala.”
Heidi Esconde, psychologist: “I have been avidly watching ‘Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala.’ I’m quite impressed with the performance of KC Concepcion as the ‘other woman.’ Viewers normally hate this type of character.
“But, in KC’s portrayal, we can glean where she’s coming from—the hurts and pains of betrayal and rejection, as well as her deep attachment to a past relationship. She makes you identify with her predicament, which is very different from the innate wickedness of other teleserye villains. She’s truly a renaissance woman.”

Froilan Infante, advertising executive: “I decided to watch ‘My Husband’s Lover’ because it’s been trending and has gone viral on the Internet. My observations: Chanda Romero’s effortless acting sets the screen on fire. Gay lovers are cuter if they act straight. Carla Abellana deserves all those close-ups, because she is the epitome of loveliness. Karel Marquez and Glydel Mercado can make people cry without hysterics.
“Gay stories can be told intelligently if they are devoid of melodrama and veer away from swishy, stereotypical storytelling. Other than its over-the-top musical scoring, the series has nailed it this time.”
Julie Katada, OFW: “I’m glad that ‘The Voice’ has finally gotten a Pinoy edition. I believe that exceptional singers should be heard and given the chance to shine, regardless of how they look and how old they are. It’s also a plus that even professional singers can join the singing tilt.
“Last week, I was thrilled to see a father-and-son team impressing the judges. Another contestant displayed his incredibly high register by effortlessly singing a Didith Reyes classic!
“There’s no need for extended and sudsy back stories—the contestants’ performances alone are good enough. Also, the judges’ reactions should be judiciously shown to limit distracting moments that capture them going over the top!”
Ely Suan, student: “Sarah Geronimo is a fine singer. Lately, however, her singing has become predictable and boring. Maybe she can relax a little and sing songs that will show her softer side? She can learn from other belters, like Dulce and Regine Velasquez—they’re great even when they don’t birit!”
