Comedian Sammy Lagmay passed away Wednesday afternoon after a two-year battle with diabetes.
He was 55.
According to Tessie Tomas, his costar on ABS-CBN’s 1990s satire “Abangan ang Susunod na Kabanata,” Lagmay “refused dialysis towards the end” and couldn’t eat, either.
“He went blind,” said filmmaker Jose Javier Reyes, “Abangan” writer.
Actor Roderick Paulate remembered Lagmay as “a simple, funny man.”
A former office messenger, Lagmay became a mainstay on IBC 13’s 1980s sitcom “Chicks to Chicks.”
“Chicks” costar Carmi Martin said he was a “good person. I pray that he got to talk with his [US-based] family before his passing.”
Reyes noted how “cruel show business is … once you fall ill and are no longer useful, you are discarded.”
Lagmay’s sister Mylene Mariano said the wake would be at St. Peter’s Chapel in Novaliches, Quezon City. Funeral is on Sunday at Providence Memorial Park in Bulacan. Bayani San Diego Jr.
