As close friends, Angeli Khang and Robb Guinto found doing intimate scenes awkward at first. But the fact they’re both women, the Vivamax stars said, actually made the job more comfortable in the long run.

“Not that I have had any bad experiences with male actors, but as girls, we’re more comfortable doing intimate scenes, because we already know what each other’s limitations are,” Robb told the Inquirer at a recent media conference for “Unang Tikim” which is now showing in cinemas.

The first few sexy sequences did require retakes, however, as the two actresses tried to set aside their personal friendship in front of the cameras. “Ganito pala kapag close kayo! We would start laughing as soon as our lips were about to touch … Our director (Roman Perez Jr.) told us, ‘Sabi ko na maghaharutan lang kayo, eh,’” she recalled.

Thankfully, they managed to shake off any initial shyness.

“Later on, our director would tease us, ‘Parang magkakatuluyan na kayo.’ Because the scenes seem so real. When we’re in front of the cameras, we immediately switch to our characters,” Robb said.

“Never did I imagine that I would have to kiss her, take our clothes off, but it’s a movie. We tell ourselves that it’s just work. As the days went by, we became more and more at ease. We’re like, ‘Tara, hubad na,’” Angeli said, laughing.

“The care for each other is there after the scenes. In the tent, we ask each other, ‘Have you already eaten? Do you want medicine?’ It’s like we’re a couple! But seriously, we got to bond and grow even closer. I’m very thankful to have worked with the people here. It makes me more passionate and do more projects,” she added.

The movie, which follows two former lovers who think they have already moved on, has two versions: R-16 and R-18. As such, the film is slightly “tamer” from the streaming site’s usual offerings. They want to reach a wider audience, Perez said.

“I don’t want to preach in my films. We just hope to tell a story with a message: Love wins. This is a love story that just happens to have two female characters,” he said. INQ
